A simple man learns he might be better off dead, at least financially, in this satiric comedy from Indian filmmaker Anusha Rizvi. Natha (Omkar Das Manikpuri) and Budhia (Raghubir Yadav) are two brothers who run a family farm in Peepli, a small town in India. Business has been bad on the farm, and the brothers are unable to repay a government loan, with a default judgment due any day. When the brothers call on a local politician to ask if anything can be done while they wait for a judge's ruling on their case, he facetiously suggests that one of them could commit suicide, since the government would pay benefits to the surviving family members. Natha doesn't realize the official is joking and volunteers to kill himself, while a television reporter overhears the conversation and immediately puts the story on the air. Soon a handful of newsmen have shown up at Natha's house, waiting to find out if the farmer will indeed kill himself, and before long it seems as if most of the nation is watching, with everyone sharing their opinions on Natha and his dilemma. The story is a boon to the news media but bad for the local politicians, who are standing for re-election that day as folks stay away from the polls to follow Natha's story. As everyone from Natha's son to the proverbial man on the street weighs in on what he should do, the farmer wonders if suicide really is the last, best way he can help his loved ones. Peepli Live received its North American premiere at the 2010 Sundance Film Festival. ~ Mark Deming, Rovi

Peepli
Review For Movie Peepli Live
A fitfully amusing Indian comedy that touches on a hot-button topic.
Rachel Saltz-New York Times

You can't decide whether to laugh because the events are so absurd or cry because you can imagine them really happening.
V.A. Musetto-New York Post

I liked Peepli Live, which is colorful and at times quite lively, but I wish it were funnier and its satirical edge a bit sharper.
G. Allen Johnson-San Francisco Chronicle

Manages to mine substantial dark humor from this tragic situation while offering pointed -- and sometimes poignant -- social commentary in the process.
Gary Goldstein-Los Angeles Times

Both a heartfelt and a genuinely funny skewering of India's convoluted caste-consciousness.
Eric Hynes-Time Out New York

It's an unusual taste of mainstream Indian cinema, unexpectedly irreverent with an earthier, folkier soundtrack than the typical Bollywood electro-bounce.
Aaron Hillis-Village Voice

A better writer than director, the strength of Rizvi's 'Peepli Live' is the film's unsentimental portrayal of the poor
John Esther-UR Chicago Magazine

Thousands of poor farmers kill themselves every year in India and it was audacious of writer-director Anusha Rizvi to make a comedy out of the fact with her first film.
Derek Malcolm-This is London

You can't fault the crusading spirit of this controversial Bollywood satire, just the blunt, one-note, entirely obvious execution.
Tim Robey-Daily Telegraph

There is a deadly serious message about India's rural/urban divide in first-timer director Anusha Rizvi's satirical gem, but it also happens to have a juicily vulgar streak.
Cath Clarke-Guardian [UK]

Drawing on India's rural-versus-urban divide, Rizvi spins a dynamic, enjoyably-acted yarn that balances farcical humour with a satisfying seriousness.
Tom Dawson-Total Film

While the tone may shift from satire to farce at times, this is a highly assured debut by Rizvi.
Anna Smith-Empire Magazine

It's a worthy film. A little less worthiness and a little more sharply weaponised wit would have helped.
Nigel Andrews-Financial Times

Rizvi keeps the humour broad (this doesn't have the metropolitan sharp sophistication of Chris Morris) but the premise is so strong that pithy satirical points are neatly scored.
Tim Evans-Sky Movies

This is a movie that opens with the hero puking, and spends the rest of its running time showing why that may be the only sane response to the state of the world.
Noel Murray-AV Club

The juxtaposition of the tragedy and the lunacy of the circumstances are not completely disparate; satire is an appropriate weapon here, but it's the drama in Peepi Live that truly resonates.
Tim Cogshell-Boxoffice Magazine

A poignant soaicl satire, with some elements of a funny screwball comedy about contemporary life in India, its greedy media, complex politics, and diverse populace.
Emanuel Levy-EmanuelLevy.Com

Broad, entertaining satire, with heartfelt pleas, on the difficulties for the farmers and those who try to help them.
Nora Lee Mandel-Film-Forward.com

Its comical, sharply observant caricatures of India's political and media jackals offers a much-needed reality check in a country where celluloid escapism is too often the rule.
Jay Antani-Moving Pictures Magazine

I just wish what [Rizvi] had to tell us about the India of today might have taken a form less distractingly reminiscent of the American classics of yesteryear.
Michelle Orange-Movieline

A satisfying and searing satire on the plight of poor farmers in India and the lack of sympathy or understanding of them by the rich and the powerful who have their own plans for national progress.
Frederic and Mary Ann Brussat-Spirituality and Practice

Takes a deep look at an everyday tragedy and provides the humorous dimension that underscores the pathos. Who says Bollywood is only interested in lightweight romantic musicals?

Watch Now Carlos Full Movie Online

Arthouse favorite Olivier Assayas followed up his critical darling L'Heure d'Été (2008) with this wildly different chronicle -- a biopic of the ultra-left-wing Venezuelan terrorist-cum-mercenary Ilich Ramírez Sánchez, popularly known as "Carlos the Jackal." As co-written by Assayas and scenarist Dan Franck, the account spans the years 1973-1994 -- or the period that witnessed Sanchez at his most violent and relentless. Narrative touchstones include the 1974 bomb attack at the Publicis Drugstore on Paris' Left Bank and the 1975 abduction of 11 OPEC officials from Vienna, as well as a torrent of assassinations that Carlos and his cronies planned but didn't carry out. As produced by Daniel Leconte, this telling of Sanchez's life stars Edgar Ramirez as the terrorist, as well as Alexander Scheer, Aljoscha Stadelmann, and Julia Hummer; it was predominantly shot in Germany, France, and Lebanon. ~ Nathan Southern, Rovi

Carlos
Review For Movie Carlos
Carlos deserves mention alongside the greatest suspense thrillers ever made.
Christopher Kelly-Dallas Morning News

The term "epic" often gets bandied around to describe movies that don't really fit the description. But Olivier Assayas' Carlos is the real deal...
Rene Rodriguez-Miami Herald

It manages to deliver a steady stream of action thrills even as it reconsiders the international terrorism of the 1960s and '70s for lessons important today.
J. R. Jones-Chicago Reader

A terrifying portrait of an egomaniac who demands absolute obedience, and craves it even more when his power and relevance are drained away.
Roger Ebert-Chicago Sun-Times

It is one of the best pictures of the year.
David Lewis-San Francisco Chronicle

It's a subtle, ultimately staggering portrayal of a bloody-minded ideologue who convinced only himself.
Ty Burr-Boston Globe

Carlos is a smart piece of filmmaking that delivers thrilling sequences and doesn't pander -- grounding its idealistic character in a sea of contradictions.
Eric Melin-Scene-Stealers.com

Carlos is relentlessly tense and exciting.
Thomas Caldwell-Cinema Autopsy

Una película narrada con mucho rigor y nervio, que logra reconstruir a la perfección la atmósfera y las tensiones geo-políticas de la época en la que está ambientada. Gran trabajo del venezolano Edgar Ramírez en el rol titular.
Enrique Buchichio-Uruguay Total

It's obviously not meant to be funny, but in a way it is.
Jeffrey Chen-Window to the Movies

it's this downtime that finally, finally begins to show some cracks in Carlos' armor. It slowly becomes clear that Carlos is nothing but surface.
Jeffrey M. Anderson-Combustible Celluloid

Absorbing
Fernando F. Croce-CinePassion

Mesmerizing 5-hour-30-minute biopic.
Dennis Schwartz-Ozus' World Movie Reviews

Carlos was like a terrorist version of James Bond, a high-living, jet-setting playboy terrorist for hire.
Robert Roten-Laramie Movie Scope

Like "The Baader-Meinhof Complex", this is a largely pointless exercise meant to deliver the same kind of cheap thrills as "Bonnie and Clyde" or the Mesrine flicks. At least with straight-ahead gangster movies, you don't get the liberal moralizing.
Louis Proyect-rec.arts.movies.reviews

Assayas, hopping the globe from bloody episode to bloody episode with little pause for reflection, offers a concise history in how radical political violence played out across Europe during the final Cold War years.
Damien Love-Uncut Magazine [UK]

The film is a fascinating, fictionalized, notably sexually charged account of the two-decade reign of terror masterminded and carried out by this lone radical "soldier."
James Verniere-Boston Herald

Even in it's watered-down 2 1/2 hour cut, CARLOS remains a stunning piece of work. This is a star-making performance for Edgar Ramirex.
Chris Bumbray-JoBlo's Movie Emporium

One of the most detailed and enthralling political dramatic thrillers ever made.
-Film4

Directed by the eclectic Olivier Assayas, it's a three-part made-for-TV movie that offers compelling watching but not much insight.
Peter Keough-Boston Phoenix

Watch Now Neil Young Trunk Show Full Movie Online

Jonathan Demme gives us some Neil Young musical and spiritual soul. Young on a stage full of personal icons: alone in the center of a circle of his beloved acoustic guitars; in the midst of stellar musicians Ben Keith, Ralph Molina, Rick Rosas, Pegi Young and Anthony "Sweet Pea" Crawford, plus an onstage painter portrayed by Eric Johnson. There are delicately offered acoustic numbers like "Sad Movies" and "Mexico"; mesmerizing electric travelogues into the artist's psyche ("No Hidden Path"); searing, chaotic anthems including "Like a Hurricane" and "Cinnamon Girl"; and rarely performed pieces like "Kansas" and "Ambulance Blues" that provide glimpses of Young's less public persona. In addition to his distinctively blistering and plaintive guitar, Neil draws deep melancholy from an old piano and pats it on the side after like a beloved old dog. He sings his heart out again and again. It is a collection for the ages.

Review For Movie Neil Young Trunk Show
Demme beautifully captures the show's casual intimacy.
Elizabeth Weitzman-New York Daily News

For better or worse, this is a straightforward performance film. I feel it's for the worse.
Joe Williams-St. Louis Post-Dispatch

Like all true filmmakers, Demme also has an eye for telling details.
Stephen Cole-Globe and Mail

The mix of grainy film and pixel-sharp tape, plus some innovative editing that includes multiple split screens, adds brilliant textures to the piece.
Peter Howell-Toronto Star

A legendary musician keeps on rocking in this enjoyable slice of live performance.
Justin Lowe-Hollywood Reporter

Looks and sounds like several million bucks.
Mike Hale-New York Times

You forget you're watching a movie and instead feel like you've got the best seat in the house.
Tricia Olszewski-Washington City Paper

The nitpicky reservations I have of Jonathan Demme's unadorned (some would call it lazy) concert film, Neil Young Trunk Show, do not offset my full-out recommendation that Young fans run right out and see it.
Jim Slotek-Jam! Movies

Do we really need two Neil Young concert films? By the same director, no less? In three short years? The answer given by Neil Young Trunk Show is emphatically yes.
Annlee Ellingson-Moving Pictures Magazine

Neil Young Trunk Show is 82 minutes long, 81 of which are guitar solos.
Chris Hewitt (St. Paul)-St. Paul Pioneer Press

Apparently it's the second film of a trilogy Demme intends on Young -- and the middles are always the hardest parts to get right, yeah?
Shawn Levy-Oregonian

A marvelous document of a still vital musician whose unbending indifference to pop fashion has proven him more creatively durable than any other figure from the golden '60s moment that gave birth to his career.
Ray Greene-Boxoffice Magazine

Young plays a loose, enthusiastic set that is exuberant for its range and energy. Reeks with the authenticity of a hard-working, grown-up music star who does it his way.
Nora Lee Mandel-Film-Forward.com

Sensationally entertaining...Demme captures [Neil] Young's pure, unadulterated passion and love for music in a way that no words can truly [describe].

Watch Now Jean-Michel Basquiat: The Radiant Child Full Movie Online

In his short career, Jean-Michel Basquiat was a phenomenon. He became notorious for his graffiti art under the moniker Samo in the late 1970s on the Lower East Side scene, sold his first painting to Deborah Harry for $200, and became best friends with Andy Warhol. Appreciated by both the art cognoscenti and the public, Basquiat was launched into international stardom. However, soon his cult status began to override the art that had made him famous in the first place. Director Tamra Davis pays homage to her friend in this definitive documentary but also delves into Basquiat as an iconoclast. His dense, bebop-influenced neoexpressionist work emerged while minimalist, conceptual art was the fad; as a successful black artist, he was constantly confronted by racism and misconceptions. Much can be gleaned from insider interviews and archival footage, but it is Basquiat's own words and work that powerfully convey the mystique and allure of both the artist and the man. --© Arthouse Films

Jean-Michel
Review For Movie Jean-Michel Basquiat: The Radiant Child
Tamra Davis's documentary does serve as a worthy companion to Julian Schnabel's 1996 biopic.
Rick Groen-Globe and Mail

In the end the art must speak for the artist; Davis wisely stands aside and lets the magical images tell their tales.
Colin Covert-Minneapolis Star Tribune

A touching portrait that may not be the last word on the painter, but has facts and context to burn.
Carrie Rickey-Philadelphia Inquirer

The intimate, home video footage -- which has never been shown -- feels poignant, a throwback to Basquiat's early days on the New York scene when he got by on his good looks, an elusive inner confidence, and the generosity of others.
Sebastian Smee-Boston Globe

[Davis] underplays the place of drugs in the downtown club scene, treating the artist's heroin use as a nearly unaccountable late affliction.
Kenneth Baker-San Francisco Chronicle

While it is wonderful to see so many Basquiat paintings, at the film's end the viewer is left feeling complicit in the exploitation.
Gale Robinson-Dallas Morning News

What may convince viewers of the quality of the art and the genius of its creator is the barrage of so many paintings, flashing each briefly before the eyes.
Donald J. Levit-ReelTalk Movie Reviews

Basquiat appears to be a slippery subject, not unlike Bob Dylan, who is very difficult to decipher.
Jeffrey M. Anderson-Combustible Celluloid

[Director Tamra Davis] uses [a rare] interview as the foundation for an eye-opening look at Basquiat?s meteoric career ? and how art, fame, drugs and media collided in this one young man?s life.
Sean Means-Salt Lake Tribune

When you see J-M's works next to Da Vinci, Picasso and Grey's Anatomy, you can see their influence, but their ideas take on new tone, texture and style under Basquiat's brush.
Robin Clifford-Reeling Reviews

It's not an easy thing to actually give a sense of a person in a documentary, but Radiant Child pulls it off.
Chris Hewitt (St. Paul)-St. Paul Pioneer Press

Finally, a film about an artist acknowledges that the art is what's important.
James Verniere-Boston Herald

...may not be a well-rounded portrait of the man, but it's a powerful look at the artist.
Laura Clifford-Reeling Reviews

Fame ultimately wore him down, but we can see Basquiat's influence all around us, on factory walls, in museums, and in Ms. Davis' adoring doc.
Kelly Vance-East Bay Express

A lively and persuasive look at the artist's life, oeuvre, and impact.
Shawn Levy-Oregonian

An absorbing but fawning documentary about doomed artist Jean-Michel Basquiat, built around an old, never-before-seen interview with him.
Brent Simon-Shared Darkness

Will likely go down as the definitive account of a too-brief career and life...(The film) is fast-moving without sacrificing depth or detail.
Fr. Chris Carpenter-Movie Dearest

What really sets this superb documentary apart is its filmic vibrance: it practically pulsates with a captivating energy that's lacking in the genre all too frequently.
Gabe Leibowitz-Film and Felt

It's still better to flameout than to fade away.

Onkalo (Finnish for "hiding place") is under construction: it's a cavernous world of tunnels and corridors, a permanent storage facility for nuclear waste, meant to last 100,000 years (that's 20 times as long as the pyramids have so far). Conceptual artist Michael Madsen's film is a creepy, eerily elegant meditation on human folly, punctuated by philosophical and historical references, that asks: how do you keep 3,000 future generations from inadvertently opening this Pandora's Box? Should markers be posted in every language or in hieroglyphics that say "keep out"? (Someone suggests Edvard Munch's "The Scream" might work nicely.) Would it be better not to post any notice and hope no one will chance upon it? And what about the Ice Age predicted to occur in a mere 60,000 years? Will the weight of the ice impact the structural integrity of Onkalo? If you thought the Gulf oil spill was scary... -- (C) Film Forum

Review For Movie Into Eternity
Into Eternity is a documentary that may look like a science fiction movie, but it ends up more of a horror film.
Tom Long-Detroit News

Madsen, whose symmetrical compositions and slo-mo shots of uniformed workers have a quality of Kubrickian sci-fi, frames the film as a message to the future.
Joe Williams-St. Louis Post-Dispatch

In a deceptively low-key manner, Danish filmmaker Michael Madsen has beautifully crafted one of the most provocative movies of the year.
David Lewis-San Francisco Chronicle

Directed by Danish filmmaker Michael Madsen with grace and deep curiosity, "Into Eternity" is better than timely.
Lisa Kennedy-Denver Post

Into Eternity provides few solutions regarding the estimated 200,000 to 300,000 tons of N-waste lying around the world, but it does alert us to potentially devastating consequences. Will we heed the warning?
V.A. Musetto-New York Post

More like a troubling dream, or outtakes from an abandoned David Lynch project, than a conventional documentary.
Andrew O'Hehir-Salon.com

Madsen's ominous work is reminiscent, stylistically, of Kubrick's masterworks 2001: A Space Odyssey (1968) and The Shining (1980) in its visual precision and chilly environs.
Simon Foster-sbs.com.au

Into Eternity may be the most honest, as well as the most beautiful, documentary you've ever seen.
Sarah Boslaugh-Playback:stl

Finland leads in storing nuclear waste, and what a long strange trip it will be
Marty Mapes-Movie Habit

Watching the film is akin to having a totally immersive, video game-like experience, a journey best described as Lord of the Rings meets 2001: A Space Odyssey.
Lauren Wissot-Slant Magazine

This film is about your legacy. If you want to see the future, you want to see this film.
Jennifer Merin-About.com

Approaches the Onkalo problem with one part curiosity to two parts dubiousness, reflected in a hyper-aestheticized style that feels equally influenced by Errol Morris, Sigur Rós, and creepy science-fiction movies.
Scott Tobias-AV Club

Part instructional video, part existential head-trip
Chris Cabin-Filmcritic.com

Transcending agitprop, this disturbing documentary gets to the heart of the question of civilization and its discontents.
Louis Proyect-rec.arts.movies.reviews

The story of a nuclear-waste repository designed to last 100,000 years becomes a haunting rumination on time, language, civilization and folly.
Chris Barsanti-Film Journal International

The film reaches way beyond the usual activist crowd by making itself as formally compelling as it is tightly argued.
Vadim Rizov-Boxoffice Magazine

As a film, it's extremely mannered. And truly sobering.
Rich Cline-Shadows on the Wall

Formally exacting and sonically immersive, Madsen's approach is so hypnotic you emerge as if roused from a troubling dream.

Review For Movie Kisses
A coming-of-age drama so Irish you'll want to take out your Pogues' lyric sheets beforehand to brush up on Gaelic mumbling.
Stephen Cole-Globe and Mail

What the writer and director, Lance Daly, means as some kind of transporting urban adventure for them is a disenchanting slog for us.
Wesley Morris-Boston Globe

It's arresting.
Amy Biancolli-Houston Chronicle

A marginally sweet movie about two woebegone Irish kids.
Peter Rainer-Christian Science Monitor

Rewarding tale of two kids loose on Dublin's mean streets with outstanding performances.
Ray Bennett-Hollywood Reporter

Terrific non-pro actors Kelly O'Neill (Kylie) and Shane Curry (Dylan) are the backbone of the film, directed by Lance Daly, who says as a kid he thought of running away.
V.A. Musetto-New York Post

It's exciting, sweet, gritty and generally just a joy to watch.
Mike Edwards-What Culture

There are undoubtedly more dark days ahead for Kylie and Dylan, but in Kisses, we see the beginning of character forged by circumstance.
Jim Slotek-Jam! Movies

In writer-director Lance Daly?s lens, downtown Dublin is like a modern-day Oz ? and the movie even starts by showing the kids? dreary home life in black-and-white, slowly moving to full color.
Sean Means-Salt Lake Tribune

Sincere and vulnerable, aching with youthful insight
Jeff Meyers-Metro Times (Detroit, MI)

Cute but foul-mouthed, tough but vulnerable and obviously crazy about each other in a reticent way, these kids are a wonderful presence, giving the most contrived scenes genuine emotion and a veneer of realness.
Stan Hall-Oregonian

A darkling, modern-day fairy tale and lyrical coming-of-age story, Irish filmmaker Lance Daly's 2008 film "Kisses" is a small gem.
James Verniere-Boston Herald

When it's not trite, Kisses can be refreshing in its realism.
Zak Jason-Boston Phoenix

Lance Daly's Ireland is not the scenic Irish wonderland of Ondine.
Kelly Vance-East Bay Express

A blend of gritty realism sand magical fantasy that's undoubtedly calculated but still deeply satisfying.
Frank Swietek-One Guy's Opinion

Dorothy parachutes into Dublin in search of the Wizard but there is no place like home.
Ron Wilkinson-Monsters and Critics

Exquisitely-shot and deeply affecting with just the right balance of humor, sweetness and grittiness. Newcomers Kelly O'Neill and Shane Curry shine in raw, heartfelt and charismatic performances.

There's nothing so frustrating as a small movie, made by a clearly gifted filmmaker, that flies close to magic only to be sternly jerked back to earth.

This lavish, sprawling drama from filmmaker Luca Guadagnino has drawn numerous comparisons to the films of Luchino Visconti for the grace with which it plumbs the inner workings of the Italian upper crust. Edoardo Recchi Sr. (Gabriele Ferzetti) is the aging patriarch of a Milanese clan that has amassed a significant fortune over the years through shrewd investments in the textile business. Edoardo Sr. has a beautiful wife, Allegra (Marisa Berenson), and the two have a reliable and dependable son, Tancredi (Pippo Delbono). Years ago, Tancredi met, fell in love with, and then married a woman named Emma (Tilda Swinton) amid a trip to Russia, and brought her back home to Milan; their children include sons Edoardo Jr. (Flavio Parenti) and Gianluca (Mattia Zaccaro), and artist daughter Elisabetta (Alba Rohrwacher). The family gathers for a reunion at Edoardo Sr. and Allegra's villa in Milan, but the happy gathering takes a somber turn when Edoardo suddenly dies not long after having lunch with his family. But the death is far from the only pivotal event that occurs that day: Edoardo Jr. also introduces his mother to a chef, Antonio (Edoardo Gabbriellini), with whom he plans to open a restaurant, and Emma finds herself drawn to the culinary artist. Meanwhile, Emma learns that Elisabetta is a lesbian, and though initially startled by this news, she takes the liberation of her daughter as inspiration for her own liberation from confining nuptials. On impulse, Emma travels to San Remo, catches sight of Antonio, and finds herself helplessly drawn to him. Meanwhile, as Emma and Elisabetta undertake their life-changing journeys, all of the men in the Recchi clan outside of Edoardo Jr. feel bound to profit-driven motives -- the commercialism of a class that has long ago shucked responsibility for its workers. This critically acclaimed film constituted Swinton's second collaboration with Guadagnino; they first worked together on the 1999 feature The Protagonists. ~ Mark Deming, Rovi

I
Review For Movie I Am Love
The grand architecture of Milan and the icy rhythms of composer John Adams set the tone for this elegant Italian drama about the suffocating power of family, wealth, and tradition.
J. R. Jones-Chicago Reader

There's no getting around the fact that this is elegant soap opera,. It won't appeal to every taste. But it's sensational to look at, powerfully acted, and delivers a bang for the emotional buck.
Jonathan F. Richards-Film.com

Despite a superb cast and a fabulous look, the picture collapses under the weight of its lofty pretensions, especially in the black hole of the last act, where it topples into near-absurdity.
Rick Groen-Globe and Mail

If you're not in the mood, the whole thing will probably seem pretty silly. But if you are -- oh, if you are -- I Am Love may be the richest, tastiest truffle you're likely to savor all summer.
Ty Burr-Boston Globe

The overripe ending, heated by the percolating music of John Adams, is heavy seasoning on a delicate dish.
Joe Williams-St. Louis Post-Dispatch

An intimate, quiet and even slow movie, its subtle shadings veil turbulent emotions.
Roger Moore-Orlando Sentinel

The predictable end, which comes with an abruptness that feels altogether too constructed, completes the fantasy of transgression that's at the heart of the movie's appeal, however elaborate the trappings.
Nicolas Rapold-Film Comment Magazine

...a frustratingly uneven bit of over-the-top filmmaking...
David Nusair-Reel Film Reviews

The marriage of music and image seldom gets better than this.
S. James Wegg-JWR

For me the obvious attempts at enhancing lushness, rapture, and emotional swings were not connecting. I couldn't help noticing it was trying too hard.
Jeffrey Chen-ReelTalk Movie Reviews

Tilda Swinton is both imperious and vulnerable ... in this lush romantic melodrama that harks back to the heady days of Visconti and Antonioni.
Jason Best-Movie Talk

Though a flimsy melodrama -- so overdone that it often collapses under filmmaker Luca Guadagnino's ineffable sense of bloat -- Swinton saves the day.
Kimberly Gadette-Indie Movies Online

Tilda Swinton shines in overcooked melodrama.
Don Groves-sbs.com.au

A high class soap opera

Joseph Proimakis-Movies for the Masses

When the picture ends in full-blown, melodramatic, raise-the-roof fortissimo, we realise everything that had come before (the highs and the lows) was a tantric tease of a crescendo, leading up to an almighty finale.
Simon Miraudo-Quickflix

I am not a fan of romantic movies but I Am Love dives into its romance with such reckless abandon and such an over the top affection for cinema that I could not resist.
Beth Accomando-KPBS.org

I Am Love is like an impressionist painting, an artwork of thoughtful brushstrokes, each one adding a richness to the overall effect
Rebecca Barry-Flicks.co.nz

You get the feeling Guadagnino wanted to send the same thrill up the spine of jaded modern moviegoers that audiences got at the movies a half-century ago, and in this "I Am Love" succeeds wildly.
Rob Thomas-Wisconsin State Journal

The highest praise is that it lives up to its extravagant title
Fernando F. Croce-CinePassion

I'm calling 'I Am Love' the best movie of the year to date; a companion viewer called it 'repulsive'... Does one opinion invalidate the other? The movie is complex enough to invite such questions, and rich enough to resist answers.
John Beifuss-Commercial Appeal (Memphis, TN)

Exaggerated yet elegant, opulent and sensual, it's a leisurely-paced European art-house melodrama that's made its way into the cineplex.
Susan Granger-www.susangranger.com

A film I wasn't waiting for by a filmmaker I was unaware of just shows up and blows me away. I like that.
